The Great Commandment—Mark 12:28-30
One of the teachers of the law came and heard them debating. Noticing that Jesus had given them a good answer, he asked him, "Of all the commandments, which is the most important?" "The most important one," answered Jesus, "is this: 'Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.' The second is this: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no commandment greater than these."
Because of this Command we:
- Gather weekly to worship God, giving him our best in worship
- Encourage everyone to seek out an intimate, personal relationship with Jesus
- Embrace Benevolence and Serving in the Community—we live to assist others
The Great Commission—Matthew 28:18-20
Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."
Because of this Commission we:
- Place an extremely high value on personal evangelism
- Organize our church around Small Groups, because they create the relational environment necessary for discipleship
- Train people to become intentional leaders who can disciple others
